Tips for Taking Great Video Clips
Tips for Taking Great Video Clips
Thank you very much for helping us with our latest video project filming 3-minute videos to educate our guests and employees about a unique aspect of your country or a special interest of yours.
Purpose:
We hope to use the video clips you take in a variety of ways, including marketing (social media, blog, YouTube, email), employee trainings, and potentially as a tool for SIG groups.
What we would like from you:
We are interested in 3-minute video clips of you showcasing a unique aspect of your country or a special interest of yours, such as the following:
- If live near a significant tourist attraction, landmark, historic site, or piece of art, film yourself talking about its history and significance while standing in front of it
- If you have a garden or live on a farm, give us a tour and be sure to include any pets or animals!
- If you play a musical instrument, send a video of you playing
- If you have a background in botany or history, for example, base your video around telling us about native plants or the history of your region
- If you enjoy crafts or have a hobby that is unique to your country, give us a demonstration (pottery, weaving)
- If you like wine, film a brief wine tasting and talk about the foods that pair best with the wines you are tasting
- If your daily routine includes visiting a local bakery or store, or is just a walk around your neighborhood, film it
- Any other cultural experience that would give our guests and employees insight into your country
A few simple tips:
- Use your phone to film these video clips (IPhones especially have really fantastic cameras)
- ALWAYS hold your phone horizontally when talking videos
- At the beginning of the video introduce yourself and say where you are
- Keep your hands and phone as steady as possible
- Don’t chase the action. Hold your phone in one place. Any movement, such as panning from left to right, should be done very, very slowly.
- Speak loudly if in an outdoor setting and make sure the video is capturing your voice clearly
- Try to stick to the 3-minute time frame, although a little longer or a little shorter is perfectly fine as well!
- Lastly, think about composing the shot as you would when you take a photo—make sure that you are getting everything in the frame that matters
- Technical tip before you start: Go to your phone Settings, Scroll down and click on the Camera tab, make sure Record Video setting is set to 1080p HD at 30 fps to ensure we are getting the highest quality video.
