Sitting at the southwestern tip of continental Europe, Portugal has long played a major role in exploring new lands. And on our new 13-day Discovering Portugal small group tour, we have our chance to explore this nation rich in history, blessed with natural beauty, and well-versed in hospitality.
From Lisbon to the north of Portugal, through the Alentejo region and south to the Algarve, our small group navigates the gentle charms of this Iberian nation. Complementing our discoveries: stays in three unique pousadas, Portugal’s famed historic lodgings. And with nearly two weeks to explore this compact yet mesmerizing country, we have ample time to get to know each stop along the way.
Portugal’s riotously colorful Pena Palace, which we tour on Day 4
Though only as large as the state of Maine, Portugal contains a wealth of diversity – picturesque coastal resorts, forested mountainside villages, cosmopolitan cities, and quaint country estates. We have our chance to discover all of these treasures, and experience a few small-group highlights that larger tour groups won’t be able to do, including a private cruise along the Duoro River and tasting at one of Porto’s famed port winemakers, and a picnic lunch at a country estate in the pastoral Alentejo district.
