I have come to expect excellence from Odysseys Unlimited and have never been disappointed.
Michael E. Leahy Oak Lawn, IL
We have been to many, many places all over the world, with many different tour companies. None of them compare to the Odysseys Unlimited small group experience.
Nancy & William Sondervan Sherrills Ford, NC
The small group is wonderful and the quality of tour directors is exceptional.
Bill Jones Vancouver, WA
All that was advertised was delivered. Consider this tour to be a real value as to sites visited, itinerary, hotels, and travel between sites.
Susan & Paul Krupp Georgetown, TX
Odysseys does everything with style, but without pretension. Beautiful meals and hotels. Excellent guides.
Barbara Schoetzau New York, NY
Very early in the tour we saw we got much more for our dollar than anything we could have put together ourselves. The value exceeded our expectations.
Tara Malmberg Quitman, TX
Good value for $ — accommodations, food, guide, itinerary, and [small] size of group. Have traveled with other tour groups ... and like you best.
Jean Hall Prairie Village, KS
We like the model – small groups, excellent tour directors, solid hotels, good mix of group/independent activities.
Roger Soder Seattle, WA
The combination of excellent hotels with a small group is the way I like to travel. I would highly recommend Odysseys to everyone I know.
Patricia Joyce Peoria, AZ
We love the small group experience.
Dave & Alice Wilson Williamstown, MA

Jane & Ronald Decker Chicago, IL
Odysseys tours are just right for us: great value, nice group size, complete trips, sufficient free time.
Laurin & Phyllis LeTart Shepherdstown, WV
This trip far exceeded our expectations: the small group size, the quality of the tour director (the best we’ve ever had), the ability to have dinners on our own, the lower cost without a significant reduction in the quality of the accommodations.
Barry & Bobbi Rosner Somerset, NJ
I thought I would not like traveling in a group but I was wrong! [Our tour director] was so good at making the group seem as one that it turned out to be the best part of the trip.
Donna Stevenson Dublin, OH
It was the best value in travel we’ve ever had. It was a wonderful experience.
Trish Merrill & Mac White Austin, TX
This was my 7th trip with Odysseys and they keep getting better and better.
Merle Frank Miami, FL
Love the small group format and the ease of traveling with arrangements made for us.
Ken & Carolyn Helm Newburgh, IN
Tour exceeded my expectations having never taken a group tour. An excellent experience – can’t wait for my next one!
Ronni Goldberg New York, NY
Absolutely the best bang for the buck – organization, quality, consistency.
Harvey Wine Dallas, TX
I like the small size of Odysseys tours. [You] have excellent Tour Directors, great itineraries and spend more time in areas than some of the other tour companies.
Lynn Bafaloukos Glendale, AZ
Because of the group size and outstanding guides, you make travel easy for us!
Outstanding Beauty, Dramatic Scenery, and Hospitable Locals: Norway in a Nutshell
Posted March 18, 2019
For American travelers, it might seem difficult to get a read on the true culture of the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. In many ways, these nations resemble our own, with a high standard of living, excellent education and health care, and opportunities for economic advancement.
But if you spend some time outside the major cities and get in touch with everyday citizens, as we do on our Norwegian Splendor small-group tour, you’ll discover the true heart of this region. It is a historic and beautiful part of the world, filled with proud, hardy individuals who keep their traditional ways of life intact while incorporating modern advancements.
While we enjoy several days of touring in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm (on our Sweden extension), our excursions detailed below reveal the best parts of Scandinavia.
Norway’s breathtaking fjords
Words do not do these scenes justice, and photos can only capture a slice of the awe-inspiring beauty that Norway’s fjords offer. We make multiple scenic drives and stops during this tour, along with several ferry crossings, and have ample time to soak in our surroundings.
The Flam Railway’s majestic scenes
A masterpiece of engineering along precipitous mountainsides, the Flam Railway ascends nearly 2,900 feet through the steep and narrow Flam Valley. The railway took nearly 20 years to construct – and as we will see, it was worth the effort. During the 50-minute ride, we speed through 20 tunnels (18 of which were excavated by hand), curve around 21 hairpin bends, marvel at the mighty Kjosfossen Waterfall as it plunges from ledge to ledge, and enjoy truly breathtaking views. Though the ride is less than an hour, it will provide memories to last a lifetime.
Lunch at a mountain farm
On Day 8 of our tour, we’re along Norway’s west coast in the village of Geiranger, at the head of stunning Geirangerfjord. Our touring on this day brings more epic scenes, along with a stop for lunch at a historic mountain farm used as an upland pasture for herds of goats, cows, sheep, and horses from the village below. It’s a close-up look at the types of people who live and work in these unique and beautiful settings.
Visit to a working salmon farm
In between Bergen and Lofthus, we visit the Hardanger Akvasenter salmon farm. The farm floats in the deep, clean waters of the Hardangerfjord, which counts as one of four major fish farm regions worldwide. This aquaculture operation is the first of its kind in Norway, and our visit opens a window into how this industry works.
Tour and sit-down at Steinstoe Fruktfarm
After our visit to the salmon farm, we call at Steinstoe Fruktfarm, one of the largest fruit farms in this area of Norway. Producing a fresh array of strawberries, cherries, and apples, Steinstoe is known as “Norway’s fruit orchard.” We enjoy a tour of the farm led by the family of the owner then get to know them better over cake, coffee, and juice.
Bookended by stops in Copenhagen and Oslo (and Stockholm if you choose to take the tour’s extension), our Norwegian Splendor tour sheds light on the many faces of this lovely Scandinavian nation.
