Welcome to the Odysseys Unlimited Blog Posted May 6, 2016
Travel. One word that conjures up so many images, from a peaceful sunset over the south Pacific, to the bustle of a colorful Asian floating market, to the proud form of a lion lounging on the Serengeti. It can be a means to an end, a way to “seek other places, other lives, other souls,” as essayist Anais Nin wrote. Or it can be an end in itself. Author Robert Louis Stevenson once said: “I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.”
It’s a multifaceted word, one that means different things to different people.
To us, it means opportunity. Opportunity to experience firsthand (and often join in) the different ways of life in foreign cultures. Opportunity to expose the senses to sights, smells, tastes, sounds, and textures found only in faraway lands. And opportunity to learn—about people, places, history, and sometimes most profoundly, about ourselves.
At Odysseys Unlimited, travel is our passion and our livelihood. And just as we recognize the profound effect travel can have, we also understand the issues and questions that surround this ever-changing field. As we move forward with this blog, we will be covering a variety of topics to help smooth your travels, from tips on how to best work the TSA lines and packing for safari to travel inspiration and city spotlights.
We hope you’ll follow along with us here, engage with us on our Facebook page, and join us on one of our unique small-group tours. As Mark Twain said, “Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all of one’s lifetime.”
